The Myth of Luck: Why Providence Is the Real Key to Success
Sep 15, 2025One moment.
That’s all it takes to change the course of your life — a conversation, a meeting, a chance opportunity. People call it “luck.” But luck is a shallow word for something much deeper. That moment only matters if you’re ready when it comes. That readiness is not luck. It’s Providence.
The Problem with Luck
We love stories of overnight success. The actor “discovered,” the business that “took off,” the athlete who “got their big break.” But behind every so-called lucky moment are years of preparation, discipline, and persistence.
This blog is for the ones who feel overlooked, who wonder if success is only for the lucky. For those who’ve worked quietly in the shadows, waiting for their chance. For the ones who fear their time may never come.
The truth is this: success is not random. It’s not luck. It’s Providence — the meeting of preparation and opportunity.
When I look back at the turning points in my life, none of them were truly random. Yes, the timing felt sudden — but the groundwork was years in the making.
When I was homeless at 17, people might say it was luck that I later found mentors and opportunities. But luck didn’t get me there — it was years of showing up, surviving, and preparing that positioned me for those chances.
The Tiger in me 🐅 demanded structure and persistence: show up, do the work, be ready. The Phoenix 🔥🕊️ reminded me that each ending was also preparation for a new beginning. Providence was the thread that tied it all together.
Michael's story reflects this journey. After missing the opportunity to run during his college years and taking a brief hiatus, he decided to start running again. He began to achieve small victories one after another. With a clear vision of his ongoing success, he set annual goals for his running, including 5Ks and one-mile races. As a result, each year he gets closer to his ultimate goal of completing a one-mile run in under four minutes. That's Providence.
The Shift: Providence as the True Driver of Success
Providence is the recognition that your role is not to control timing, but to prepare for it. You don’t decide when the door opens, but you do decide whether you’ll be ready to walk through it.
This is where The Five Pillars of Tiger Resilience reveal the truth about success:
Purpose 🎯 – Know what you’re preparing for. Without purpose, opportunity means nothing.
Planning 🗺️ – Map your steps so you’re ready when timing aligns.
Practice 🔄 – Consistency creates confidence; it’s the training ground for Providence.
Perseverance 🏔️ – Keep building, even when it feels like nothing is happening.
Providence 🌅 – Trust that preparation meets opportunity at the right time.
Luck says, “Wait and hope.” Providence says, “Prepare and trust.”
Phoenix Steps: How to Live in Providence, Not Luck
🔥 Step 1: Define your “big door.” What opportunity are you preparing for — even if it hasn’t arrived yet?
🔥 Step 2: Build daily readiness. Choose one habit that ensures you’ll be prepared when the chance comes.
🔥 Step 3: Reframe waiting. See quiet seasons as training, not wasted time.
🔥 Step 4: Celebrate small alignments. Notice where preparation has already met opportunity in your life.
🔥 Step 5: Anchor in trust. Repeat the affirmation: “Success is not luck. It is my preparation rising into the right moment.”
Caution
🚫 The trap: Believing Providence means passivity.
Providence is not sitting still, waiting for life to change. It’s about living prepared, so that when life shifts, you’re ready. The Tiger reminds you that preparation is your responsibility. The Phoenix reminds you that timing is not random — it’s the spark of renewal.
The Four Domains of Providence in Success
Body 💪 – Train your body as if the opportunity will arrive tomorrow.
Mind 🧠 – Build the mindset to recognize opportunity when it comes.
Heart ❤️ – Stay open to relationships and connections that become gateways.
Spirit 🔥 – Trust that your journey has a larger timing and unfolding.
