Your Pace, Your Power: Rediscovering Joy Outside the Race
Aug 07, 2025Thirty.
That’s the age by which I was “supposed” to have it all figured out—a steady career, a family, a sense of certainty about who I was and where I was going. But at thirty, I was still finding my footing, watching others race ahead while I felt caught in slow motion. The world tells us there’s a schedule for everything. But what if the best things come at our own pace?
Pain
This is for anyone who feels anxious or ashamed about their timeline—whether it’s your career, relationships, healing, or personal growth. Maybe you’re haunted by the milestones you “should” have hit by now, or maybe you’re quietly comparing your journey to everyone else’s, wondering if you’ll ever catch up. If you’ve ever felt the weight of not being “on time,” this post is for you.
I’ve lived this tension. After losing my father at seventeen, my life didn’t just fall behind—it took a detour I never could have planned. While others moved forward with college, careers, and families, I was rebuilding from scratch, learning to survive before I could even think about thriving. There were years I felt stuck—like a Tiger forced to watch the herd move on without him.
Michael’s story is another reminder. His injury meant his athletic dreams had to pause, while teammates sprinted ahead. Yet, it was in the slow, steady work of recovery—the Phoenix rising, not in a blaze, but in gentle, persistent embers—that he found a new kind of power. It wasn’t about catching up. It was about discovering joy in the journey, not just the finish line.
The Shift
Here’s the truth: The Tiger’s strength isn’t in speed, but in presence. The Phoenix’s magic is in slow rebirth, not instant transformation. When you honor your own rhythm, you reclaim your power. The Four Domains remind us—body, mind, heart, and spirit all have their own pace for healing, growth, and joy. The Five Pillars show us that Providence is trusting our timeline, not forcing someone else’s.
Phoenix Steps
- List three things you love about your current season, even if it’s not where you “should” be.
- Create a “joy ritual” for your mornings or evenings. Savor a cup of tea, a walk, or a song that grounds you.
- Practice mindful comparison: When you notice envy, bless the other person and gently return to your own lane.
- Set a boundary with people or platforms that trigger timeline anxiety. Mute, unfollow, or take a break where needed.
- Affirm: “My pace is my power.”
Roadblock
Don’t fall into the trap of believing that faster is always better. The Tiger’s strength is in steady progress; the Phoenix’s magic is in slow, deliberate renewal. Rushing only robs you of the lessons and beauty found in the present.
Journal Prompts
- Where do I feel pressure to rush, and what is driving it?
- What’s beautiful about my current pace or season of life?
- When have I experienced the most growth—quickly or slowly?
- How can I honor my own rhythm today, even if it looks different from others?
- Who supports my journey, no matter the speed?
